There is a fuel shut off switch ( inetria switch ) that is very sensative to impacts or even hard braking. On the Ford Ranger's this should be located behind the kick panel on the passenger's side floor toward's the door. There should be a reset button on top of it that you just push to reset. My company uses Ranger's for delivery vehicle's and I have seen cases were the switch will need to be reset just because the driver had to slam on the brake's or hit a pot hole.
The 1992 Ford Ranger does not have a fuel pump shutoff switch. You can disable the fuel pump by removing the fuel pump fuse.
