The Hopi did not traditionaly have "Chiefs". The was a more informal organization. Each village had a leader/ kikmongwi from a specific clan. Each village has had its own social, religious, and political organizations. There was much ressitance to forming a government in a more American or Western style. Today the is a Tribal Chairman, Leroy Shingoitewa, a Vice Chairman, Herman G. Honanie and 15 council members.
The Hopi chief assists in some farming and hunting, but is usually gone to for advice. The chief would have most likely have been found in the Hopi's pueblo.
