The Hopi did not traditionaly have "Chiefs". The was a more informal organization. Each village had a leader/ kikmongwi from a specific clan. Each village has had its own social, religious, and political organizations. There was much ressitance to forming a government in a more American or Western style. Today the is a Tribal Chairman, Leroy Shingoitewa, a Vice Chairman, Herman G. Honanie and 15 council members.
