It soon became obvious to the leaders of the Confederacy that the Union was blockading important seaports. These seaports were also Union candidates for invasion. To help protect their ports they called upon a West Point graduate who was an engineer. His name was Colonel Robert E. Lee. One of Lee's strategies for protecting the ports, especially ones that might be invaded and occupied by Union troops was to build "heavy duty" fortifications around them. He also had what was considered an innovative idea of placing canon fortifications to a point inward from the sea so that the canons from Union ships could not reach them. The Confederate artillery was set with long range canon to hit either blockading or invading Union ships.
Taylor Davis did it!!
No, your commander does not count as part of your deck when building a Commander deck.
With the exception of the Confederate Warwick Line on the Peninsula campaign, Major General "Fighting Joe" Hooker's fortified line at Chancellorsville, and Lee's fortifications at Mine Run, the fieldworks used prior to 1864 tended to be shallow and best seen as " moderate" defenses. After the war, these styles of defense were called "hasty entrenchments" in order to differentiate them from strong fortifications.

In MTG Commander format, the color rules for building a deck are that you can only include cards that are within the color identity of your commander. This means you can only include cards that are the same color as your commander, any color within your commander's color identity, or colorless cards.
