In 1776, the 13 American colonies declared their independance from England.
The Monroe Doctrine
The primary combatants were Great Britain vs. its thirteen North American colonies south of Quebec. France allied with the colonies, as did Spain and the Dutch Republic to a much lesser degree. Great Britain had the help of some German auxiliaries and some loyalists within the rebelling colonies, and most Native American tribes sided with Great Britain. Also involved against Great Britain were the Kingdom of Mysore and the Republic of Vermont.
Spain was involved with the Aztecs, specifically Hernando Cortes.
The Roosevelt Corollary was an addition to the Monroe Doctrine. It stated that no European countries were allowed to intervene in Latin American affairs. The only way that the U.S was allowed to become involved was if the affairs or European countries was threatened. The United States could exercise police power in Latin America. The United States was the only country allowed to interfere with Latin American countries.
The cause of the war involved European nations competing for control of colonies was boundary disputes.
The European combatants were imperial powers with colonies on every continent except Antarctica.

Though refered to as the Great War and interpreted as a European affair, by 1914 nations from continents across the world were involved, including Russia (European/Asian), Canada (North American), Japan (Asian) and dozens of African colonies. The Great War became worldwide the day it was declared.
The American colonies were seeking independence from the British empire. So, American colonies (US and Canada) and the UK were involved in the Revolutionary War. France became involved as an ally of the Americans later in the war, as did Spain so they as well as some of their colonies did as well. Another ally was the African Americans that were seeking out freedom from there owners but others still wanted to stay with Britain because they thought if the Loyalists won they would have more power then if they stuck with the Patriots.the two nations that were involved in the revolutionary war was the british and the americans.
