It's a microphone
A microphone is a device with an electrical output. An acoustic wave is the input. Its only function is to 'capture' sounds and convert them into an electrical signal for processing by the computer.
A Microphone does not output sound. It accepts sound. It is an input device.
A headset can function as both an input and an output device. It serves as an output device by producing sound for the user to hear, such as audio from a computer or phone. It can also function as an input device by incorporating a microphone to capture the user's voice for communication or recording purposes.
If they are for hearing then its output device as they are not putting anything in to the computer, if they have a microphone attached as well then they are input/output (i.e. microphone is input, speakers are output)
a multimedia input device is anything and manything ranging from video cameras, web cams, to ipods and flash drives it is basicly and thing that and store or transmit sound, pictures, or videos to another unit
Speakers are considered to be an OUTPUT device, as the signal is traveling out of your device, and into the speaker.
Audio input is bringing sound signals into a device from another device, typically using a plug or jack.
A microphone is (put simply) a magnet inside a coil of wire. When the noise vibrations hit the magnet it moves creating an electronic field around the wire. That electricity goes into your computer.A microphone is an input device.

A Microphone
You might be able to use a text to speech program, but the quality of the voices are usually not very good. Other than that, without an audio capture device, you can not. Though, if you have a sound card, you already have something that will work - all you need is a cheap microphone.
A joystick is an input device. It receives input from the user in the form of it's operation which it then passes on to the computer. Speakers are an example of an output device. They receive no input from the user, and only output (sound in this case). You can think of an input device as something that gives the computer information. And an output device as something that receives information from the computer.
