Debian, Ubuntu, and Yellow Dog will run on them. Yellow Dog probably has the best support for them.
You can install Windows or any of several Linux distributions. If its more than a few years old I'd recommend Linux as the current Windows version won't run reliably on it as it probably doesn't have enough RAM.
Yes. Linux can run on minimal machines and on very old machines, back to 386 processors, but you'll probably lose the graphical user interface. You need to use a copy of Linux from one of the specialist distributions.
There are MANY distributions of Linux out there, and almost all of them are compatible with Intel processors. Some of the main ones are: ALT Linux CERN Linux Damn Small Linux Debian Fedora Core Gentoo Linux Knoppix Linspire Mandriva muLinux Slackware SuSE Ubuntu Vectorlinux Xandros Desktop and of course, Puppy Linux. Like I said, there are MANY distributions out there that will work with Intel hardware, but these are some of the most common ones. Puppy Linux works with almost ANYTHINIG, I used it to boot into a really old PC in our attic with about 128MB RAM, single core processor and a really bad graphics card - brilliant performance. So, whether you're asking because you have a computer with an Intel processor or whether you're trying to find a Linux distro for use with older hardware the ones I have listed should all work fine for you. I recommend Ubuntu, Puppy or Debian if you are new though I haven't tried all of them myself to comment on the others.
Worthwhile applications are included in distributions many years after they cease being developed (e.g. TeX). The original authors may continue to publish the code. You may also find old applications and source code in old distributions archives (e.g. SRPM files).
It's open source, meaning you can make a change to the code and distribute it if you like. It's free.Has a wast range of flavors, aka "distributions" also commonly known as "distro"s.Can be customized in any way you like (if you know what you are doing)Supports wide range of hardware, devices, even older ones. (Basically you can revive and old computer with linux)Since many users from around the world are using linux, support is available.
Some Microsoft programs work on Macs. If you have an old Mac, it will most likely not work. You need to have new and updated Macs. You also need to make sure you buy a Microsoft program that works with Macs.
no because if they are old they might go deff
No, it will only work on Windows
Linux was created in 1991 by Linus Torvalds, then a 21-year-old college student in Helsinki.
How much old do you mean by old? Well, before Gnome and KDE, there was the Command Line Interface (CLI). MCC Interim Linux was the first linux distribution, released in February 1992 used the CLI.
