It depends on how old your computer is. Mojang does not put a minumum or maximum computer specs on their software so it's a "might or might not" work setup. Ask around others that have your model/year that also play minecraft to see how theirs do.
In general if your computer is around 3 years old or so you should be able to use the newer Minecraft v1.6 and above versions fine. (as of Jan/'14 it's at v1.7.4)
If it's older you should still be able to use the older v1.5.2 Minecraft version fine.
The reason is Apple has dropped support for Mac OS-10.5.x that has Java 1.5 and is no longer updated. Apple modified their own version of Java for their computers. Mojang the creaters of Minecraft has dropped support of Java-v1.5 and older so you can only play Minecraft v1.5.2.
Mincraft 1.6 and above only supports Java-v1.6 and above in the new "Launcher" 1.6 version.

Yes.
Since the macbooks must be returned and repaired, it may take a while. They seem to release the refurbished MacBooks in batches so they are available for a day or two and then there is a gap when they are not available while they build up another batch. It is a case of checking in everyday and then ordering one quickly when they have them.
