In most families (regardless of religion) parents and grandparents are looked up to for their wisdom and knowledge. This is simply because they have had more life experiences and therefore have more knowledge about a broader range of subjects.

Within Mormonism, no one family member is treated more importantly than another. Mormons believe that the family unit is a team and that every family member needs to contribute and work together to be successful. Mormons believe that parents have a responsibility to train their children and prepare them for adulthood, but this is nothing unique to Mormonism as it is found in nearly every culture.
