There were other minor tribes, such as the Texcocans, Zapotecs and Tlaxcalans. The Tlaxcalans were bitter foes of the Aztecs, ultimately allying themselves with Hernan Cortes and his Spanish conquistadors to defeat the Aztecs in 1521. In fact, had it not been for their intervention, the Aztec would have had a better chance of holding-off the European onslaught, probably for a couple of centuries or more.
