In July 2004 Vermeer's painting Young Woman Seated at the Virginals' was sold at auction for $42 million.Answer 2: The value of an undisputed Vermeer would likely exceed $100,000,000. The authenticity of Young Woman Seated at the Virginals is disputed which explains the relatively low sales price. Because the few authenticated Vermeers are all in museum collections , the only way to acquire a Vermeer is to steal one which happened in 1990. The Concert was stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston and has not been recovered.
Click link below for a little bit of info.Addition:The following was taken from a chat site:Gaston PierreI bought a large oil painting of a French street scene signed Gaston Pierre from an antique store. On the back it explains: "Gaston Pierre was born in Belgium in 1932. He ha studied art both formally and informally in Belgium and France. His unique style and technique ha won him many awards in Europe. He is currently exhibiting in over 15 cities in the United States."As far as I can tell, this is NOT the same person as Gaston-Pierre Galey who was born in France in 1880. The signatures are also very difference (Galey in small cursive, and Gaston Pierre in large block letters).
