As of 2012, the estimate for Russia's population is 143,200,000. It's population growth rate is 0.15%. 2009 saw the first population gain for Russia since the breakup of the Soviet Union, but was a mere 23,300. In 2011, a gain of 191,000 was recorded and in (July) 2012, a gain so far of 124,000. Russia hit its peak population of 148,689,000 in 1991, just before the breakup of the Soviet Union.
