The Bible doesn't say that "Armageddon" [Megiddo] is the "final battle site" of anything. The word is inspired once in scripture... and it only says that Satan, the Beast and the False Prophet will "gather together" the armies of all the nations of the world there.
"...I saw three unclean spirits [devils; demons] like frogs come out of the mouth of the Dragon [Satan; Rev.12:9], and out of the mouth of the Beast, and out of the mouth of the False Prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, TO GATHER THEM TO THE BATTLE OF THAT GREAT DAY OF GOD ALMIGHTY... and he [should be they; three unclean spirits] gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon." (Rev.16:13-16)
Historically... the nations of the world who have waged wars in the Middle East have always "staged their armies" and made their battle preparations in this "Megiddo Valley" or "Jezreel Valley" region. It's a wide open area that's perfect for that purpose.
According to scripture... when the army of God engages man's resisting forces... the "consuming Fire" that is God [Heb.12:29] will mow through them with relative ease:
"...Like dawn spreading across the mountains a large and mighty army comes, such as was never of old nor ever will be in ages to come. Before them fire devours, behind them a flame blazes. Before them the land is like the Garden of Eden, behind them, a desert waste -- nothing escapes them." (Joel 2:2-3 NIV)
"At the sight of them, nations are in anguish; every face turns pale." (verse 6)
"Before them the earth shakes, the sky trembles, the sun and moon are darkened, and the stars no longer shine. The LORD thunders AT THE HEAD OF HIS ARMY; His forces are beyond number, and mighty are those who obey His Command. The Day of the LORD is Great; it is dreadful. Who can endure it?" (verses 10-11)
Zechariah tells us that "Jerusalem" is the Lord's objective... where David's throne once was -- the throne upon which He shall sit [Isa.9:7]... and from which He will rule the earth for a thousand years.
"Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations, as He fights in the Day of Battle. ON THAT DAY HIS FEET WILL STAND ON THE MOUNT OF OLIVES, EAST of Jerusalem..." (Zech.14:3-4 NIV).
Armageddon is well north of Jerusalem. So, if the Battle begins there... Joel and Zechariah tell us that the forces of God will move rapidly toward Jerusalem... scorching the land [and everything upon it] as He goes.
"On that Day Living Water will flow out from Jerusalem... The LORD will be King OVER ALL THE EARTH..." (Zech.14:8-9 NIV).
The Bible only says that Armageddon is to be the "gathering place" of the armies of man, intended to resist and fight Jesus' return. It doesn't say that it will be the "final battle site."
