In many countries a high school graduate will be considered for entry in Police Training. Contact the Police Force you wish to join for further details
A normal high school education. If it's a large city, you will be sent to a Police Academy to learn other things. Small towns teach you on the job.
Some states require certification which requires attending a police academy. (Texas now even requires elected constables become certified within two years of being elected.) Paying for it yourself will greatly help your chances of being hired as departments will otherwise have to pay, which will cost $25,000 or more so they would rather hire someone already certified. And now-a-days, more and more departments, even those in not so large cities, require a Bachelor's Degree. For example, Longview, Texas began requiring 4-year degrees in 2004. The type of degree is not specified but a criminal justice degree will be of great benefit for success in both the academy and your job.
