Wired Equivalent Privacy
WEP stands for Wireless Equivalent Privacy. It is an algorithm to provide security on wireless networks. It was introduced in 1997 and although it is still widely used, it does have some weaknesses.
The initials WEP stands for Web Equivalent Privacy. It is a security system for wireless networks that protects any private and confidential information from being hacked by unauthorized users.

WEP stands for Wired Equivalent Privacy - it is a form of wireless encryption which stops unauthorised people accessing a router or encrypted data. On the PSP, the WEP key is the decryption key for a specific router - so you'd use the same WEP key your PC or laptop uses to connect to your wireless router, then the PSP can use it too.
WEP has been replaced by WPA.
WEP, or Wired Equivalent Privacy, is a kind of wireless encryption. So if your wireless router is using WEP encryption, it will have a passcode to allow your devices to connect and use it. That is what the DS is asking for.
Where is the WEP key?

Probably 578511 is an error indication but i know that a wep key has to have letters in it so 578511 is not a wep key.
The WEP key is found on the router, not the DS unit or the WII. The WEP is different all routers.
The 64 bit WEP key uses a 40 bit (10 Hex character) Encryption and a128 bit WEP key uses a 104 bit (26 Hex Character) Encryption. So the 128 bit WEP key is a higher level of encryption compared to 64 bit WEP.
