The Teapot Dome Scandal occurred in Wyoming in 1920. The Wyoming land involved in the scandal was the Teapot Dome Oil Field, located in Natrona County, Wyoming. Teapot Rock is an eroded sandstone formation located about 25 miles north of the city of Casper in the southwestern Powder River Basin. About six miles east of the rock is the southern boundary of the Teapot Dome Naval Oil Reserve.

The Elk Hills and Buena Vista Oil Fields in Kern County, California were also part of the Teapot Dome Scandal.
