The sartorius flexes, abducts and laterally rotates the hip, and flexes and laterally rotates the knee The posterior fibers of the gluteus medius, laterally rotates the hip, while the whole glut medius works to abduct the hip
In human's, the two muscles that rotate the thigh are the gluteus medius and the gluteus minimus. The gluteus medius is located on the outer surface of the pelvis with the gluteus minimus underneath it.
A muscle with origin in the ilium, with insertion to the surface of the greater trochanter, with nerve supply from the superior gluteal nerve, and whose action abducts and rotates the thigh.
Much of the semimembranosus lies deep to the semitendinosus.
