I have seen a product called Salt Away being sold in various marina's, that may have some salt neutralizing qualities. Since I personally have not tried it, I cannot endorse it, however, others give the product a high rating. As for the corrosion, once the metals are eaten away, there is nothing much to be gained through application of any substance. You simply can't treat or flush what is not there. Salt buildup is just tough to bust through, plain and simple. There is little substitute for continual, aggressive maintainence when it comes to running in salt water. A regular flushing routine with fresh water is still the cheapest insurance against salt corrosion that I am aware of. Even better, if able, a short run in a fresh water lake or river will do both your engine and trailer good. With the addition of engine flushing adapters on the cowling of late model engines, it is easier than ever before to flush your engine, even at the dock....Beaufort
Certain models of Johnson and Evinrude engines are not equipped with a tell tale water indicater outlet. These models discharge cooling water out the exhaust passages, and or the propeller.

A Mercury outboard water pump is a engine cooling system. A outboard water pump is what blows steam through to get the car cool,
This is the result of a dirty cooling system. Corrosion is occuring in the engine block and a cooling system flush is required. Always use a good quality corrosion inhibitor in your cooling system to prevent overheating and possible head gasket damage.

cooling the water
By simply storing your outboard in a vertical position, powerhead up, the cooling water will drain out of the engine via the gearcase.
The coolant will not protect the cooling system against corrosion.
One word... CORROSION. Antifreeze contains anti-corrosion compounds to protect the cooling system. Without it, your system will start to build up rust inside the cooling system which can clog your heater core or radiator, and can create hot spots in the engine.
