Communism, (as opposed to individual members of a communist society or communist party members would hold a wide range of beliefs in relation to the natural world) neither promotes nor prohibit Atheism. Communist states are often considered as having state religions, insofar that there is a supreme, unquestionable leader who must be obeyed for a greater good. This is particularly evident in countries including North Korea today. Indeed, North Korea's supreme leader is said to have descended to earth from a cloud.

Atheism is not a "unifying" force nor is it intended to be. Atheism is not a religion nor a political system and there is no central organizing entity. Since atheism is not driven by any strict set of doctrines and atheists have no motive to take control over other people, force people to become atheists or rule the world, atheism is a relatively benign personal choice to not accept a belief in the supernatural.

You don't "convert" to atheism. Atheism is more of an intellectual conclusion that is sometimes arrived at after much careful analysis. It take place within your mind. Atheism simply means you have no belief in a supernatural or divine ruler of the universe. Many thinking children adopt that perspective in spite of religious training. It is your choice. You can keep it to yourself until you become emancipated and there is no harm done.
