From the oesophagus the food moves towards the stomach. Oesophagus acts as the passage way from mouth to stomach. Stomach lies in your abdomen. The mouth is above the thorax. The gap is filled in by the oesophagus.

Saliva contains an enzyme called salivary amylase which acts upon the food and breaks it into simpler substances for better digestion.
There are two classifications of human acts. These are the elicited acts and the commanded acts. Elicited acts are the actions done by will alone. Commanded acts are those involving both body and mind.
Salivary amylase is found in the mouth and has a pH of 7. It's pH is neutral because, obviously, it is in the mouth and we don't want to have an acid or base in our mouth now do we? The air we breathe is mostly nitrogen, so yes. Nitrogen acts almost exactly the same as nitrogen mixed with a little oxygen. The major difference is that nitrogen will have less moisture then straight air.
