Not sure there are such a agency. They would risk being closed down due to discrimination. It's legal for gay couples to adopt and the list of children is over 120 000 so the social workers are happy to find good homes. It's proven that children adopted by gay couples thrive. You can do a private adoption if you only want straight couples.

Why is gay adoption wrong?

Gay adoption is not wrong. There are many psychological studies of children raised by male couples and female couples and they show that gay parents are as capable of raising healthy, happy, children as heterosexual couples are.

Do gay couples adopt children?

Yes. In fact, as of 2013, 20% of gay couples in the United States are raising children, most often due to adoption.

Do gay people have to be married to adopt?

No. In the United States, sexual orientation is generally irrelevant for single-parent adoptions. There are some states where same-sex married couples can jointly adopt. There are states where unmarried couples cannot jointly adopt and same-sex married couples are legally considered unmarried. There are some states where single gay parents can adopt, but same-sex married couples cannot. There are also many states where the adoption may be legal, but there are no legal protections against discrimination by the adoption agency against gays and lesbians. In general, however, if you are a single gay person and wish do adopt a child, you may do so. Joint adoption and "step-parent" adoption are more tricky.

Which state prohibits joint adoption by same-sex couples?

Currently, Florida is the only state that specifically prohibits same-sex adoption, whether by gay and lesbian individuals or couples whereas Mississippi permits individual adoption but does not allow joint adoption by same-sex couples. Utah on the other hand, prohibits any adoption by a person who may be cohabitating with the guardian or parent but is not legally married. These laws presents a unique challenge to gay and lesbian couples wishing to adopt so it pays to know the laws in your state before you begin an adoption process.

Do state laws differentiate in accepting same sex parent adoption?

Today, more and more gay couples are foregoing the secrecy and adopting openly as a homosexual couple. LGBT parents face an uphill battle in many areas of the country. Utah for example, prohibits adoption by couples who are cohabitating but not legally married . Utah does not allow gay marriage, making it almost impossible for a gay couple to jointly adopt a child. Mississippi will allow a gay individual to adopt but does not allow adoption by same-sex couples while Florida doesn't allow gay adoption at all - whether as an individual or a couple. And while the laws in other states might not be so clear cut, many areas still have a distinct bias against gay adoption.

Why Attorneys Are Crucial For Gay Adoption Rights Issues?

One of the greatest parts about life in the United States is the provision for freedom. People are supposed to be treated equally according to the Constitution, but this doesn't always happen. In recent years, the gay community has seen many experiences of prejudice and discrimination for services that violate their rights. By law, gay couples are allowed to adopt children if they meet the standard qualification guidelines required by any other applicant. Many gay couples who enter the adoption process are more than qualified to adopt. While several of them experience no hassles or problems, other couples may not be as fortunate. Sometimes a small issue can be treated as a delay or disqualification by some adoption agencies. In some cases, the adoption agency may only be using that factor as an excuse to avoid approving an adoption to a gay couple. Although agencies are supposed to be professional and reflect professional business practices and standards, they often put these aside in their own personal feelings toward gay couples. The result is a long process with more hassles than usual for many well-meaning gay couples. Fortunately, there is a solution for couples who are facing unfair treatment they feel is based on their sexual orientation. Attorneys who specialize in gay rights and adoption can be found in every large city. Many of them are passionate about their work, some being victims of the same treatment themselves. For gay couples who live in smaller communities, it is often possible to find an attorney who is willing to work from a distance. Advocate legal groups also exist for this issue. There are plenty of resources for help, so no gay couple should be discouraged and give up hope when facing unfair treatment. Sometimes it is difficult to determine whether treatment is unfair or is actually a part of the adoption agency's regulations. Attorneys will be able to obtain the agency's regulation standards, research state and federal laws and inform concerned gay couples if they have a case or not for discrimination. Even if there is no case to make, these attorneys make excellent advocates for gay couples going through the adoption process. They are able to provide valuable legal advice and inform couples of things to avoid and look for while undertaking the process. Trying to adopt without an attorney is possible, but it is a much better idea to hire one on retainer to have in case issues arise that are problematic.
