You can NOT. It voids the postage, and the item will likely be returned to you. (Otherwise, the postmark could just be wiped off the tape, and the stamp reused.)
Presuming the postage is of the correct amount, and the stamp is entirely on the front of the envelope (not 1/3 on the envelope and 2/3 over the top or side) it should not matter.
The value of an Anna Julia Cooper postage stamp would depend on various factors such as its condition, rarity, and demand among collectors. On average, a mint condition Anna Julia Cooper stamp could be worth anywhere from a few dollars to potentially over $20.
The most valuable stamp is the inverted Jenny. It was auctioned for over 3 million. There are only about 100 pieces in existence today.
The price rose from 4 to 5 to 6 cents over the course of the decade.
I am assuming you are talking about a US stamp and want to use it for US postage. You can, if i it s uncanceled. Of course, it only pays for 27 cents in postage, so you would have to add enough other stamps to pay the required postage for whatever you are mailing. The post card rate is now 28 cents, so you would have to add a 1-cent stamp if you want to use it on a post card.
I don't know if anyone has actually counted, but it is most probably Great Britain's Queen Elizabeth II. She has ruled England for over 50 years and in that time has appeared on every British stamp issued as well as hundreds of others issued by the members of the British Commonwealth.
The Penny Black, world's first postage stamp. Although a number of people laid claim to the concept of the postage stamp, it is well documented that stamps were first introduced in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland on 1 May 1840, as a part of postal reforms promoted by Sir Rowland Hill. With its introduction, the postage fee was now to be paid by the sender and not the recipient, though it was still possible to send mail without prepaying. Postmarks have been applied over stamps since the first postage stamps came into use.
You need only one stamp to mail from any one of the fifty states to any other state - as long as the envelope isn't over-weight. That always requires more postage.
It depends a great deal on the stamp and how old it is. If there is a special cancellation or cachet on the envelope, it is better to keep it on the envelope. The older the stamp the more likely that the envelop will have more value than the plain stamp. It is better to leave the stamps on the envelope because there is a postage mark that goes over the stamp. That will give the stamp more value.
I believe it would be US Scott Number 316. An estimated catalog value for a plate line pair is over $240,000.
For a standard shape envelope and not more than 1 ounce the postage is 75 cents. You can buy a 75 cents stamp at the post office. You could use two 44-centers of course, but you would be over-paying.
