Koalas live almost solely on eucalyptus leaves, which are virtually indigestible to other animals, as well as of little nutritional value. The Koala needs a long caecum in order to help digest the leaves. The caecum actually alters the eucalyptus leaves into s atate whereby they provide digestible nutrients.

Koalas eat only a few types of gum leaves from which they get all nutrients and water requirements. Eucalyptus leaves are tough, toxic and low in nutrition, but the koala has developed a stomach which is capable of removing the toxins from where they are filtered out by the liver. The caecum completes the process by changing the eucalyptus leaves into digestible nutrients as it contains milllions of bacteria which break down the fibre in the tough gum leaves into food that can be absorbed. Because gum leaves are so indigestible, the caecum needs to be longer for this purpose.

What are the advantages if animals have a long caecum?

So they can see (or cae) how long they cum. Only males possess this particular thing. This is so that they know they are worthy of mating. Nah jokes im just trolling. The real reason why animals would have such a long caecum is so that the indigestible food (such as leaves) can be broken down...the bacteria in the caecum break down fibre into food that can be absorbed

How do cultures view the koala bears?
