At the beginning of the American Revolutionary War the British had the advantage that they were in control. They held power. The Americans did not yet want independence just relief from arbitrary rule, or a return to the way things were in 1763. The British had a strong government to make war choices (the colonies had no official one now that they declared their independence), they were well supplied, they had many more troops, and the troops were well trained.

The British had an advantage as the American Revolution began because they had trained and experienced troops.

The British moved on to Concord where the battle at Concord Bridge took place, so there were two different battles. The British basically won the morning in Lexington, but lost the day at Concord and going back to Boston.
