As far as we know he never advised the King directly. He did however have thoughts about the role of the King. His idea was that there was a "social contract" between the King and his subjects on the basis of which the King always should be the executive of the 'general will'.

Later on, this provided the King's adversaries with the argument that he could therefore be deposed if he broke this social contract causing his policies and decisions to be against or out of step with the 'general will' of the people.
