There are very few states in the U.S. with legal minimum ages for children home alone, but many state agencies have published guidelines. Georgia, Illiniois, Maryland and Oregon are a few of the states with specific ages mentioned in their laws.
12 years of age appears to be the most common recommendation. Below in Related Links is an article entitled Home Alone Children Legal Age Limits which provides a state by state comparison with references.
One guideline from a California child welfare representative suggests that 8 year olds and over can be left at home for a brief period of time (usually just after school).
Depending on the twelve year old yes you can. if the twelve year old is mature and semi responsible you can leave him or her in his or hers room or the living room so it can watch television or something. if the kids is immature and rude or mean then most likely no, unless the kid stays in his or hers room, then yes.
this is against the law to leave children on there own from the ages of a new born to 13
Yes. it just depends whether the parents trust you.
Technically it is not, because the child is a minor.

A child could usually stay home at the age of 7, but an ethical and responsible person wouldn't leave their child home alone before the age of 12.
At what age can a child be left home alone?
There is currently not a law that specifies the age a child has to be to stay home alone overnight. It is left up to the parents to decide if their child is mature enough to handle it.
I think it sould be mostly up to the parent but it should be when the child is mature enough to handle themselves and emergency situations. They should not be left home alone for too long the first time and go over the emergency procedures with your child. You may gradually increase the time alone if it is okay with the child. DO NOT LEAVE THE CHILD ALONE IF THEY DONT WANT TO BE LEFT HOME ALONE!!!!!
