The answer to this question depends on the maturity and responsibility of the older sibling, and the behaviors of the sibling. I am 11 yrs old and babysit my younger brother, who is 9 but I am very responsible. It also depends on the parents rules. They may not be comfortable with leaving the younger sibling with their own child. my daughter is 13 years old can she babysit her 10 year old brother overnight who has behaviorial problems, adhd, odd, ptsd. she is very mature and responsible and we have neighbors that watch out for us, and she kept checking in with their grandmother
It's usually ok for kids to babysit once they can reach the doorhandle and shut the main door to the house. Our kids babysit each other regularly (ages 2 and 1 ) but we have a chair perched near the door and they can use that to open it and run if the house catches fire or something. To make sure their not left hungry you can get one of those hamster water bottle feeders from the petshop and attach a 2 litre bottle of cola to it. Our kids love that. For food I would reccommend the wholy nutricious doggy bones at Walmart as both the younger ones can suck at them and the older ones can improve their teeth. Good luck from the Rawsons here in Idaho.
It really depends on where you live... there is no age limit for babysitting in any state except Maryland (age 13), and no age limit at all in Canada or the UK.
Hope this helps, and good luck babysitting!
