The present ice age started about 2.6 million years ago and is composed of numerous glacial and interglacial periods. We are now in an interglacial, (warmer), period between glaciations. In a glacial period weasels would probably die out in cold areas due to lack of prey; the ground freezes and rodents etc. would be unable to find food. Only the weasels in living in warmer climes would be able to live and breed.
