Actually, there is no age, since you are either born with the condition of transsexualism or you are not. The whole purpose of hormones and surgery are to treat/cure this condition and to eliminate transsexualism. When your body matches who you are, you are technically no longer a transsexual.
That said, there really is no specific age to come out as having transsexualism. Most know as early as age four. In the past, children who expressed such feelings received severe discipline for having them, and thus learned to repress them for many years. Now schools are being forced to allow children to be enrolled as the gender they believe they are. Unfortunately, these students are being welcomed under the banner of "transgendered," despite having transsexualism instead, and despite needing to be recognized as if they were fully born as a member of the sex/gender they are presenting. This illustrates the harm associated with lumping transsexual individuals under the transgender community umbrella. It often robs transsexual persons of being seen as a full member of the gender which they claim as their own, and such lumping trivializes what may be the worst form of gender dysphoria there is.
