1) If you have the time( that means you don't have a job or you aren't away for most of the day), you should get a puppy that is 8 months to 3 years. You have to potty train it, get it puppy food, play with it, and set up a little puppy envirement for him or her.
2) If you don't want a lot of activity going on at your house, get a older dog that is 4 to 10 years old. Don't expect to teach it new tricks, it's too old. Get it some bones unless it has bad teeth. Be prepared for a funeral...
