One paradox in Sigmund Freud's research is the lack of empirical evidence to support many of his theories, such as the Oedipus complex or the role of the unconscious mind. While his ideas have influenced psychology greatly, they have also faced criticism for being unscientific and difficult to prove. Freud himself acknowledged the challenges of verifying his theories through traditional scientific methods.
Sigmund Freud (1856-1939) is said to be the founder of psychoanalysis with his focus on unconscious urges and repressed wishes etc. He was not the first person to come up with the theory of an unconsious mind but I don't know who was.

Freud was the pioneer of the Psychoanalytic approach. He was amongst the first to identify a deeper level of processing in the mind. He argued that many experiences could accumulate in this sub-conscious level of thought, and that these would later affect our thoughts without us directly knowing about them or their influence. The answerer before me claimed that Freud introduced the Id and the Ego here, which is an easy mistake, but these are actually products of the unconscious mind, according to Freud.
