During world war I the US did have a draft. When the Us first entered the war in 1917 there were about 129,000 men enlisted. The US knew this would not be enough so they issued a draft saying men 21-30 years old had to sign up for the draft. In 1918 this age was changed to the ages of 18-45. By the end of the war there were approx. 5 million US men and women as soldiers and nurses in Europe.

∙ 12y agoYou had to be at least 19 to join the army, any age up to about 35-40 would fight in the front line. Even though this age limit was the law boys as young as 14 ended up fighting in the Front Line.
