Our German Shepherd Chow Chow mix dog Schmow lived 13 years and for the most part she was very healthy. She was actually the sweetest dog I've ever owned. She was absolutely so gentle; it was insane. People say these dogs are aggressive but she was amazingly gentle with our smaller dog. She could rip him to shreds but she let him just play with her pulling on her ears and jumping on her while she'd gently place a paw on his back to act like she was fighting back. It was adorable. Back to your question though... As she got older she developed Arthritis in her legs and getting up and sitting down became very laborious for her. The final event was horrible. She was laying in the backyard and my mom noticed she hadn't moved for a while. My mom went to see how she was and noticed maggots had grown on her fur. She took her to the vet who confirmed that she had lost the use of her legs and that it would keep happening because she could no longer move the flies away from her fur. It would be horribly painful to be eaten alive by bugs so they put her to sleep. The vet also said that the flies lay their eggs and it only takes a small time for them to become maggots. So sad. We miss her so much.
No, it is not unhealthy. There are a lot of people that have older German Shepherds that are still 'virgins'.
German Shepard's are not usually prominent with seizures. What they are prominent to though is cancer which is usually at an older age.
Look up adverts and ask the owners of the house. You shouldn't get an arpartment with a big GSD (German Shepherd Dog) as it is unfair on him, who is a high energy dog.
It is possible, but it is very rare in puppies, it usually happens with older dogs.
Yes, it is always good to start early because as it grows older you will need it to know the rules that the dog needs to go by. My German Shepard is 11 weeks old and we started training it at 9 1/2 months. I hope this answered your question!
Any German citizen 18 or older.
Many senior dogs suffer from similar ailments as senior people. Their senses of smell and hearing often diminish and the dog is left without its major defenses. A dog will often try to hide if it is in unfamiliar surroundings (e.g., at the park) as a safety precaution.
False.
Arthritis in older people is usually due to wear and tear on the joints over time. As people age, the cartilage that cushions the joints starts to break down, leading to pain, inflammation, and decreased flexibility. Genetics, previous injuries, and lifestyle factors can also contribute to the development of arthritis in older individuals.
Like any dog they'll eat what ever given to them. BUT ONLY DOG FOOD SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THEM!!
German is often used by the older people in the southern states, colonized by Germans. German is strong in there.
Zins is related to some German words. It is most likely an older German name.
