Many senior dogs suffer from similar ailments as senior people. Their senses of smell and hearing often diminish and the dog is left without its major defenses. A dog will often try to hide if it is in unfamiliar surroundings (e.g., at the park) as a safety precaution.
Most dogs will go and find a place and hide or just lay down.
Hide food 1st in the house and have the dog find it. then when he starts to get the hang of it take him into the woods and test him to see if he can find anything. Maybe hide things he likes there too. Then have him try to find an animal. You also might need a signal so he knows when to stop, go, and be quiet. Good Luck!
Sort of; mosquitoes are not attracted to grass but, they do like it there because it is a good place to hide. even though they don't really need to hide because they are so small.
dog fleas hide behind the neck of the dog because it is one of the wamer places on the dog and fleas love warm places filled with blood

Usually when its scared, it goes to a place that it feels the thing or person won't follow it, or just a feeling of comfort. Sometimes, like my dog, they just take naps when they are old :)
