Short answer........... The WW2 in the Pacific happened because Japan attacked the US naval base in Pearl Harbour. Japan bombed Pearl Harbor to try and strong arm the US out of the Pacific. They wanted to search the Pacific for oil. They were hoping we would run and Hawaii would be left to them. Not very smart.
