The industrial revolution that began in the US ( then British colonies ) in the middle of the eighteenth century was due to no or few government laws that restricted it. As the USA developed after the American revolution, new technologies to produce products were encouraged. With ample Natural Resources, a sizable population, new inventions, along with good trading ports, the industrial revolution flourished in the US. It can also be said that the advanced US railway system added great transportation support in moving raw materials to manufacturing plants.

While initial industrialization had been successful but not as much as in places like Britain, it was mainly due to the technology powering the factories and geographical factors. The second industrial revolution that followed the American Civil War changed all that. A combination of industrial and transportation technology development such as the internal combustion engine, the telephone, telegraph and mainly the railroad, resulted in America's westward expansion, an economic boon which connected the western frontier with industrial, political and financial centers of the East.
