Ammunition should be stored in a safe when not in use. If the ammunition is being used on the range, only the amount needed should be out, and it should be kept out of the reach of children.
They typically sell for about $100 or a bit more at gun shows, in decent used condition. The Glenfield is the base model of this rifle which is made by Marlin. They made gazillions of them, they are quite common. It's a decent inexpensive gun.
