Is there a bolt release for the Model 60 22LR?

Raise the bolt to the unlocked position, then pull the trigger while removing the bolt. That makes no sense. The Model 60 is a semiautomatic firearm, not a bolt-action. The old style Model 60 used the operating handle as a bolt hold-open. Pull the bolt about 3/4 way to the rear and push in on the bolt handle to lock it open. Pull the bolt handle back out and the bolt will be released to run forward. Newer Model 60's have a bolt release lever that extends down through the trigger guard.

What does 14K GF mean?

In the U.S., solid gold jewelry is marked with the purity and the hallmark (trademark) of the maker. So, for example, my wedding ring is marked "14K FG" which means it is 14 karat gold, made by Frederick Goldman, Inc. The maker's hallmark can usually be found by searching the US Patent and Trademark Office's trademark database (but the search will probably be tedious).

There is, however, an exception, and that is that "GF" is the standard abbreviation for "gold filled" which means it is a cheaper metal core coated with gold on the outside. In other words, it is not solid gold. It would be simply crazy for any jewelry maker to select the hallmark "GF" when that normally mean that it is not solid gold, so you can expect that anything marked "14K GF" is not solid gold, although it should also have an indication of the gold content, e.g. "1/20 14K GF" would mean that the gold coating is 14 karat gold, and is 1/20th of the total weight.

If your Marlin Glenfield model 30 doesn't have a letter prefix just '69' does that mean 1969?

Hi I also own a Marlin/Glenfield model 30 cal. 30-30. the former owner says he remembers buying it sometime in 1970. and the first two digts are 70 104-- so I would think that those first two digts would show the date of manufacture. God Bless, Mike. for more info, or other questions you can e-mail me at miketheredneck38@yahoo.com Yes, it does. Soon after that, Marlin changed to a different dating system where you subtract the first two digits from 2000 to come up with the year of manufacture. Here is a link to check mfgr dates of Marlin's. http://oldguns.net/sn_php/marlinlookup.php Brian

Is the model 60 a small lever action 22 ?

It's value is about $35.00-$75.00 dollars in the shooters market. Your original scope makes it worth about$85.00 bucks. It was made somewhere between 1962-1975.They where a subcontract gun by Marlin for Sears&Roebuck. It's actually a marlin model 60, I happen to have one myself. With over 200,000 rounds through it it still shoots like a dream.Personally I'd cherish it,she'll out shoot most anything made in the last twenty years!Hope that helped you.

What years were Glenfield Model 25 22 rifles made and what model Marlin would be the same?

Glenfield Marlin Model 25 rifles were patterned after the Marlin 80C and Marlin 780 rifles. The Glenfield name was added for sales to coast-to-coast chain-stores versus stores that were specific Marlin dealer stores. The Glenfield 25 was manufactured from 1979 through 1982 according to Brophy. Others would suggest the Marlin Glenfield 25 was produced from 1972-1982. Regardless, the Glenfield name was dropped in 1983. The rifle continued as the Marlin Model 25 until 2003, which then became the Marlin 925. Differences between the Marlin and Glenfied were purely cosmestic i.e. birch stocks instead of walnut stock, different trigger guards, and triggers (black instead of gold colored). It is still being produced in .22LR (Marlin 925) and .22 Magnum (Marlin 925M) versions today. Most parts between the Glenfield 25 and Marlin 780 will interchange with no problem. Some of the Glenfield 20 and 25 will interchange as well. However, not all late model parts between the Marlin 780 and Marlin 80 will interchange with those models made in the pre-70s.

What is the value of a Glenfield 22 caliber model 75 semi auto rifle and where can you get a manual?

To see the Used Value (Blue Book Value) of your gun you can go to www.UsedPrice.com All Glenfield firearms are really Marlins, so look for a manual for a Marlin 75. Value will not be much, I'd guess $100-$150 retail. Blue Book cross-references to Marlin 989M1, but the M1 isn't in the listings, but the basic 989 production started in 1962 and 989M2 in 1966, so it's in that range. Of about 25 .22 Marlins listed, only 4 have a price range other than $65-$135, and they're not far off. I had a model 75 marlin glenfield I bought at Sears in the early 70's. It is a 10 shot semi auto similar to the model 60 but does not hold as many rounds. I paid around $70 for rifle and 4x scope. I live in a saltwater environment and this was a very dependeble and suprisingly accurate rifle for the price. It is LR shells only.

When was a Marlin Glenfield Model 60 with a squirrel on the stock last made?

My wife received one of these Glenfield Model 60s new around 1974 plus or minus a year. It has a serial number 23XXXXXX.

A serial number of 23XXXXX would have been manufactured in 1977. To figure out the Mod. 60 Glenfield/Marlin is to subtract the first two numbers from 2000. For example, my rifle with the squirrel on the butt is serial # 22XXXXXXX therefore it is made in 1978.

What I would like to know is if the rifles with the squirell on them were made for a particular customer or store?

Tim

I received a model 99 Marlin .22 with a squirrell on the stock in 1968. It was purchased by mail from Spiegel for around 50.00. I don't know if that info helps...

I bought one at either Walmart or Kmart back in 1978. I am looking for the magazine tube for it.

Randy

Tim,

I have a Glenfeild 22 long marlin that was my mothers, Serial 20xxxxxx, it has a squirrel on the handle also, i live in New Mexico, have no idea where the gun was purchased originally but will be working to find out, I am pretty sure however the gun is bought locally to New Mexico....

Chuck

I have a Glenfield/Marlin Model 60 with the squirrel on the grip, that my Dad purchased in the early 70's, can't remember the exact year.... (the serial number begins 72xxxxxx), so possibly 1972. I do remember that we bought it at Sears & Roebuck, in North Carolina. I still have the rifle, it's in good shape and works great!

How do you load a Glenfield Model 60?

Unscrew the magazine tube (located near the muzzle of the gun) and pull it out until the ammunition feed port (located on the bottom of the magazine tube) is open. Feed the ammunition in primer first and drop down the tube. Once loaded, push the tube back down and screw to secure. Cycle the action to load the ammo. Be careful and have fun.

How do you disassemble the Marlin Glenfield Model 25 22 caliber rifle?

I just did mine, because the handle is broken off the bolt. Remove the large screw at the back of the hole on the bottom for the clip. The whole works should separate from the stock. I don't know if this is the offical way, but it worked. Take the screw out of the trigger mechanism - mine had one screw and one pin - and let the piece with the long screw sticking into it slide forward a bit. There is room to get a screw driver between it and the receiver. Slide the screw driver in and pry the piece out a little. I guess it's the firing pin release. After it is out a little the bolt will slide out the back. I think I'm going to vee around the block the bolt handle goes through, put some tack welds around it and then mill around the block to square it up again. The hole stripped that the bolt screws into. It doesn't look like it was much to begin with. I never used this gun much because the bolt broke early on. Was cleaning out under the stairs and decided to try to fix it. It helps to have a nice mig welder and a milling machine at work.

AnswerThat is like turning left three times when you can simply turn right.

Open the bolt, pull the bolt to the rear until it stops. Pull the trigger and the bolt will slide out of the receiver. The large knurled screw on the bottom of the stock is the takedown screw - you will find it is slotted for a coin. Loosen that and the barrelled action will come loose from the stock. No need to take it down further.

What is the value of a 1903 springfield armory rifle serial number 969018?

This serial number is from 1929. The rifles value depends on many things..bore wear, muzzle wear, throat erosion, stock condition, does it have any special paperwork as to previous ownership, are all the numbers matching, is it a National Match rifle and the list goes on from there. Market value on a post WW1 1903 Springfield will start at about $200.00 and go up from there. Take it to a few local gun shops and ask them to give you an aproximate valve on it. But don't let someone talk you out of it until you are comfortable with the value of the rifle, some sell for as much as $3500.00 if everything is in its favor. Rifles manufactured prior to or during WW1 are of greater quality and value and should bring $400 and up depending on condition and care during the past 90+ years. If you think you have an heirloom, disassemble and examine for rust, the worst enemy off firarms.

What is the value of a Glenfield model 20 22 cal serial number 26524863?

I'm not too sure of the value, but a Glenfield is a low end Marlin produced to make them more affordable, I own one and have become quite attached to it, the only complaint I have is the quality of the ammo clip. UPDATED ANSWER - A used model 20/25 in good or better condition (80%+) has a value of around $70-$120.

What is the value of a Glenfield Model 60 22 rifle?

Actually, Sears had their own store brand "Ted Williams", none of which I can find a Model 60 cross to. They did a lot of business with Marlin on their 80 series 22's and on Marlin 336's. J.C. Penney, Montgomery Ward used Model 60's with a store brand, and Glenfield 60's were found in many discount stores prior to the BATF intervention. Its value is about $35.00-$75.00 dollars in the shooters market. An original scope makes it worth about $85.00 bucks. It was made somewhere between 1962-1975. They where a subcontract gun by Marlin for Sears&Roebuck. It's actually a Marlin model 60. (I happen to own one. With over 200,000 rounds through it it still shoots like a dream. What years were the golden 50 22 rifle made?

Marlin made a Golden 39A .22 lever rifle from 1954 to 1963 (serial prefix L through W). The Marlin model 50 was a semi-auto 12 ga. shotgun. If you have a .22 rifle marked "Golden 50," it isn't a Marlin. I have a Golden 50 Glenfield Mod. 65 from the Marlin Firearms company built in 1970.

Where do you get guns appraised.. at any gun store or are there certain gun stores that do appraisals?

If it's just a fairly modern shooter, any old gun shop can tell you what they would pay for it and sell it for (and there will be a big difference between the two). If it is a collectible or antique, you need to find someone who deals with old firearms, and if it is a unique piece with some historic significance you will need to find someone who is very specialized, like a museum curator or major auction house.
