Does ADHD affect IQ rating scales?

Usually a high iq they way an ADHD brain thinks is from lots of different angles not too sure about OCD, but obsessing compulsively over stuff might mean you spend a lot of time double checking lol

ADHD is not associated with different IQ levels; it is a neurobehavioral disorder which effects focus and impulse control. It does not exert a visible difference in IQ levels.

Can Asperger's Syndrome be mistaken for high IQ?
I think it would be unlikely that Asperger's Syndrome (AS) would be misidentified as high IQ; however, a person with Asperger's Syndrome might also have a high IQ. A person with AS will have various symptoms, some of which might cause a misdiagnosis of an attention deficit disorder (ADD or ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), a learning disability, or other conditions. As an example, it seems unlikely that a medical professional would explain rarely speaking, an intense interest in doorknobs, lack of eye contact, or experiencing extreme anxiety when lights flash as having a high IQ. A person can have both Asperger's Syndrome and a high IQ, only Asperger's Syndrome, or only a high IQ. Some people with Asperger's Syndrome have a high IQ. Most people with a high IQ do not have Asperger's Syndrome.
Are people with ADHD unintelligent?
No; no study has linked ADHD with having a lower IQ than average. ADHD affects motivation and focus which do not have a direct impact on intelligence. There are certain celebrities with ADHD who credit their success to having the disorder.

I have had some students who simply weren't too bright...taking ADD ADHD medications because their parents couldn't accept their child's low IQ scores. They had to give it a "reason" or a fix. Well...they simply got the shakes, skinny, and appeared like speed addicts. It didn't help the grades, attitude, or ability to succeed at school. == == It is not yet known exactly what causes ADD or ADHD It's Not likely, while the specific causes are not known, one of the criteria for diagnosing ADD/ADHD is that the subject showed symptoms by age 6. It is likely however, that abusing such medications actually kills braincells, just like abusing alcohol does. ADD/ADHD has nothing to do with dead brain cells. ADD/ADHD sufferers in fact usually have very high IQ's, and prescribed medications help them to utilize that full IQ. Those medications do not have the same affect on someone that does not have ADD/ADHD, so if you don't have it, taking them won't make you any smarter either!
How many symptoms of inattention must a child have before being diagnosed with ADHD?
Do not forget- Laziness is not ADHD Boring topics are also a factor in this matter. Should a child have a high IQ, maybe the topic is being dragged along too long and should change, because the child already gets what you are trying to tell it. Otherwise, there is no definite amount. If you think he has ADHD or ADD, get him some meds. Since that is the reason why you are asking this. I have a 13 year old daughter who is ADHD and BiPolar. She gets treatment at MHMRA. With these, 2 forms of depression, and adolescence. She runs away from her teachers, curses, ad has some major fits. She has the IQ of 72. Any suggestions on what I can do?
she is normal for what she is dealing with. She feels as though no one understands what she is going through. DR. cindy gilmer is adhd and has extensive experience with these things. As for the IQ I am willing to bet the test is WRONG. normal IQ tests should not be used for ADHD people because we think things through in different ways. I am 42 now and I have been where she is.
What is an emotional effect of Spina Bifida?
That can depend on how the child with Spina Bifida is treated, such as if he/she is teased, etc. The isolation a child with any disability may go through can also result in depression and self-esteem issues.

What exactly is child ADHD?
A child with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, not to be confused with ADD or Attention Deficit Disorder) may seem to have an inability sit still. They generally lack social skills, but they may have a high IQ and be very bright. However, they have trouble demonstrating their intelligence since they are unable to concentrate on school work or any type of work that doesn't interest them. ADHD and ADD are often confused with laziness. They are very different things, but may appear similar. I have ADD, and it is not just difficult, but impossible to keep my mind on something that doesn't interest me when I'm not on my medecine. However, when I take my medicine, I become a workaholic.
