Do eyes close shut when going blind?

Eyelids have no function besides to protect the eyes from harm, and to moisten the eyes every few seconds (this is why blinking occurs). Therefore, a blind person can have open eyelids, but still be able to see nothing.

Can a snake close its eyes when it sleeps?

Snakes sleep with their eyes open because they dont have any eyelids. Their eyes are covered by a clear scale called a spectacle. You can see this when your snake sheds its skin. Some scientists believe that snakes went through a period in their evolution when they were underground and lost their eyes compeletly. That may be why snake eyes have a very different structure than any other kind of animal. they dont have eyelids..but they still sleep..you can tell by looking at the eye..if its like a very thin line in the middle..they're asleep.. make sure u wake them up 1st by tapping the cage before picking it up..they get aggresive when u shock themBecause the have no closable eye-lids. They have a clear lens over the eye-ball - called the 'brille'

Do fish close their eyes when sleeping?

Not according to my observation. When they sleep, their eyes are still "open" but they do not seem to react to any movement outside the tank. So I think they somehow stop seeing things even with their eyes still "open". I think they are sleeping when they either stop moving and sink to the bottom of the tank, or when they move very little with their fins just to stay afloat. I also noticed that they tend to "raise" their head to a more "upright" position when sleeping. Once I noticed my goldfish did something very cute when she sleeps. She (I presume) hide her head behind a leaf, while resting her body on a small branch of a plant inside the tank.

When sleeping what is the position of a butterfly's wings?

Butterflies don't really sleep, at least not like humans sleep. They don't have eyelids so they can't close their eyes. When they want to rest, they just become very still.

What is unique about a leopard gecko?

The leopard gecko is equipped with multiple adaptations to ensure its survival in the desert. It's claws are great for digging through the sand. A leopard gecko will usually burrow to find a moist spot, but still keeping warm. The Leo has movable/ closable eyelids, this allows them to dig with ease. They are able to close their eyes while excavating soil/sand. Their tails are able to store fat. In-case an animal goes a couple extra days without feeding, they are able to survive off of their fat reserves in their tails.

What animal sleeps with one eye?

Snakes sleep with their eyes open because they don't have eyelids (so it's not possible to close their eyes). The shark also sleeps with it's eyes open, while still moving around. Cows do that also. Some other reptiles do that to. To summarize it, many animals sleep with their eyes open. Also, some birds and aquatic mammals have been shown to sleep with their eyes open. In all probability this is an evolved defense mechanism in response to the environment and nothing to do with the same thing in humans. Interestingly animals that sleep with one eye open actually do sleep with one half of their brain while the other half is still awake. Humans do not have this ability.See the related link for more information.Fish and Snakes, as most of them do not have eyelids.
