Birds are not insects!

Most insects have wings and can fly - e.g. flies, bees, wasps, moths, butterflies, beetles, dragonflies, ...

Some insects cannot fly, e.g. ants (although some ants can fly for a day or two of their life)

There is only one mammal that can actually fly, the bats. Some other mammals seem to fly but are actually gliding, instead, such as some 'flying' squirrels. Other gliders that seem to be flying sometimes are 'flying fish' and some lizards. The majority of animals that can fly are in the insect family, such as Wasps, Bees, Flies, etc.

Bats, insects and birds are all you'll find flying today. Some extinct reptiles, like the pteranodon, could also fly.
