The Baobab fruit has no major insect pests, though mealybugs have been known to eat the fruit. The tree can actually act as a host to insects that eat and ruin other plants around it. If the fruit pulp is burned the smoke acts as an insect repellent.

I don't know about animals eating it but people in Africa eat it fresh or dried and sometimes use it to make soup.

In various parts of East Africa, the dry fruit pulp is covered in sugary coating (usually with red coloring) and sold in packages as a sweet and sour candy called "ubuyu".
