Yes. "Cranky Kong" is Donkey Kong from the original Donkey Kong arcade game, in which Mario was known as Jumpman, and he was on an endless quest to rescue Pauline. It has been referenced since the original Donkey Kong Country game that "Cranky Kong" is in fact the original Donkey Kong, if you pay attention. For instance, when the game is first loading up and showing the developer splash logo, it shows "Cranky Kong" on the top of the last level of the Donkey Kong arcade game cranking a phonograph (a really old record player). He also refers to "his past adventures" when he was DK's age.
The earliest games are from earliest to latest: Donkey Kong - Arcade Donkey Kong - Atari 2600 Donkey Kong - ColecoVision Donkey Kong - Game & Watch Donkey Kong - Intellivision Donkey Kong Jr. - Arcade Donkey Kong Jr. - Atari 2600 Donkey Kong Jr. - Game & Watch Greenhouse - Game & Watch

The original one (Cranky Kong) yes, but the current one no. To add more details, Cranky Kong was the original DK in the arcade game and was Jumpman's(Mario's) first enemy. The current DK is an adult Donkey Kong jr and Mario's friend and rival, but not his enemy.
In the official arcade game he is, but afterwards no.
You can control Mario by using the Control Stick and to jump press A.
he is donkey kong jr if he is cranky kongs son, because cranky kong is the original Donkey Kong
If your talking about the original arcade game then technically donkey kong never had a sidekick back then. The donkey kong we know today has the primary sidekick which you may already know named Diddy kong
