Depending on the animal that is trying to hide and from which predator, they can hide under big things...such as a mouse would hide under a log or in a bush if it senses a hawk, owl, other large bird overhead, but it is much harder for them to hide from a snake. Other animals rely on their COLORATION to blend in with their surroundings so predators cannot see them. BIOMIMICRY is also used as a means to avoid predation. Some of the sea creatures have most amazing techniques to avoid being dinner...everything from ink to toxic substances excreted through various body parts! Some even use electricity! Those latter would be more of a method to avoid being prey than actually hiding from a predator, but I think some predators would think twice before chowing down on an electric fish or eel.

They use their long and sharp horns and scare away the predators.
Here are two examples of animals that use false coloring. The butterfly fish has a false eye on its tail so a predator will bite the tail instead. Some moths (such as the blinded sphinx) use false coloring (for example, large eye spot designs on their wings) to scare away predators.
They used them to fight and scare out predators.
Pandas use their thick skin and climbing ability to stay safe from predators. If these do not work, a panda will use a loud roar or a scratch to scare away predators.
Penguins are fast swimmers so if the see a predator they can sometimes swim away. If they are on land and see predators they use their voice and try to scare away the predators. Every penguin has a different type of sound in their voice so they know who each other are.
Yes fire can be used to scare wild animals away.

They roar to communicate, scare off predators, and signal a desire to mate.
