The person or President that sent Lewis and Clark on the famous expedition was Thomas Jefferson. America's 3rd President and my favorite and i am only in 3rd grade.
Benjamin Franklin did not send Lewis on his mission to explore the Louisiana Territory. It was President Thomas Jefferson who gave Lewis the instructions.
The Lewis and Clark expedition were dispatched primarily to the western portion of the United States. The expedition was commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson shortly after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803.
Lewis and Clark described the black-tailed prairie dog as a barking squirrel. They sent a prairie dog to President Thomas Jefferson who kept it as a pet for some time.
The Lewis and Clark Expedition ended because Meriwether Lewis and William Clark finished the journey to the Pacific Ocean and back to Missouri. The President Thomas Jefferson asked them to explore the land, plants and animals in that unexplored region. They figured out the longitude and latitude of certain places and took samples of plants and animals along the way. They had a Shoshoni native American named Sacagawea that went with them. She helped them navigate the land and also acted as an interpreter to Native American tribes that they encountered. She had her son as when they were on the expedition. Lewis and Clark became famous for their exploring of the Lousiana Territory.
President Jefferson needed Lewis and Clark to map the Louisiana Territory and to explore it.
