the word hippopatomus is from the ancient word for horse which is "ippos" plus the word for river which is "potamos" - don't know why the English insist on putting a consonent such as H in front of every Greek name and word that starts with a vowel but it is IPPOS not HIPPO.........

That is why they sometimes call the hippo the horse of the river.
