Primary consumers can be used to describe the organism that directly eats the producers.

For example:

Grass is a producer. A deer eats the grass. A bobcat eats the deer.

grass >> deer >> bobcat

In this food chain, the grass is the producer, the deer is the primary consumer and the bobcat is the secondary consumer.
