Addiction is related to stimulation of the pleasure center in the brain. Certain activities have that effect, and if carried out simply for the sake of pleasure, stimulation or distraction from unpleasant feelings, can become addictive. Because the pleasure is due to chemical changes in the brain, in that sense all addictions are chemical addictions.
That said, we understand what you are asking. Our biggest non-drug addiction in this country is food. Gambling is probably a close second. Shopping, sex and similar activities that can be indulged in for the sake of pleasure without lasting reward are also high on the list.
