An Arabian is a certain breed of horses which are very spirited. They were first bred in the Middle East thousands of years ago by Bedouin nomads. They are the oldest and purest horse breed. Arabians are good for edurance racing, but occasionally one comes along that is better at something else. They are mostly around 14.2 hands to 16 hands, though there have been Arabians as small as 13 hands. They are identified by their concave, "dished" face; their large, flaring nostrils; their high head and tail carriage; and their spirited, intellgent expression. They are "hot-blooded," meaning high strung or excitable, but sometimes there are Arabians that are warm-blooded.
