David Andrew Willis, Sr. age 79, passed away at Cooper Hospital, September 3, 2009, surrounded by his four children. He was born November 13, 1929 in Carney's Point, NJ. He was a lifetime resident of Carney's Point and Penns Grove and remained a lifelong supporter of both communities.
As a young man, David worked as a welder on the Kitty Hawk at the Camden Shipyard. He was employed by DuPont as a millwright and master mechanic for over 25 years until his retirement in 1988. He was an avid Phillies fan and is hopefully watching a game right now.
David was pre-deceased by his wife Alma and his son Robert. He is survived by his children: Bruce, Florence, David Jr. and Peggy. He is also survived by 11 loving grandchildren and a multitude of people who loved and respected him. He will be sorely missed by his ever-faithful and beloved Yorkshire terrier, Flossie.
Services will be held 2 PM Sunday, September 6, 2009 in the ASHCRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 47 State St., Penns Grove where a viewing will be held from 1 to 2 PM. Burial will be immediately following the service at Lawnside Cemetery, Woodstown, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Willis would have wanted donations made to Ranch Hope, The YMCA of Salem County or the ARC.
