Best Answer

In regard to righteous behavior outlined in Buddhist tradition, conscientiousness, respect for others, humility, respect for one's parents, detachment from all worldly possessions, abstinence from actions and behaviors that would create karma (karma in general for Theravada Buddhists and mainly bad karma for Mahayana Buddhists), such as having sex and drinking alcohol (because it tends to hamper one's need to accomplish all of the above listed rules), and not to kill. These are just a few of the many rules stated in Buddhist scripture but the list can be expanded when using the above mentioned as guidelines. Buddhist laymen, however, recognized that following these tenets would be difficult for the laity so some changes were made.
